Kevin's Birthday Donation Option

So, Kevin's 34th birthday fast approaches (July 18th) and what he wants most of all is a new tattoo. It will be his 14th, and it will have something to do with Disney.

You can read all about his history of tattoos in his journal, which I think is usually not flocked:

kev-bot.livejournal.com/tag/tattoos

The design he wants now, possibly on his back, is circular and geometric, and relates to a discontinued Disney ride. He was very nervous about his 13th, which I co-designed and which was a lovely anchor.

So, of course he also has an Amazon list and many other gifting options, but this is one thing where many can contribute any amount they want, just a Paypal button away. Tattoos of this type are generally in the $200 range from his favorite artist.

Notes:
1. Donations will not be made public.
2. You will not be directly thanked, unless you mosey over to Kev's journal and clue him in.
3. You will not be tracked or emailed or recorded or reported.
4. I will tell everyone when the target amount is reached; if it is not reached I will make up the difference myself so he can get his tattoo in July regardless.
5. The only reward will be his happiness, and I will post a picture of the finished design once it's done. The entire process will probably be documented in his journal as well, but we're starting out here in mine.

I think we should all just think of July as Kevin's 31-day birth celebration! It's easier that way.

I'm still amortizing the Disney tattoo that I gave him last year as his birthday present this year. I may also fill out your Friends collection.

I think you need to make a thermometer graphic that shows us how close we are to the goal.

Great minds think alike! I'm working on one now, and it will go up on monday! What do you think? Actual dollar amounts or percentages as they mount?

The percentages, definitely. Showing the actual dollar amounts just wouldn't seem right!

I suppose one does it for an actual charitable fundraiser, but not for a personal gift. That was my instinct, too.

The argument could be made that Kevin is a charity case. He is technically unemployed, after all. But Miss Manners says any obvious discussion of money is in poor taste, so you should go with your instinct here.

If only people still paid attention to her! I suppose all the old newspaper columnists have been overtaken by amateur bloggers!

I love Miss Manners, I have all her books! And before Miss Manners, Amy Vanderbilt was good for a laugh, too.
